Northfield Made Money’s List of Best Places to Live 2024

Northfield, MN was recently named one of the top 50 places to live in the US by Money.com, and we couldn’t be more thrilled and honored!

The online magazine ranked cities throughout the country using a number of criteria. During the vetting process, Money said they evaluated every city, town, and neighborhood on their list of candidates using various metrics, such as:

  • The vitality of the local job market

  • The typical housing expenses for homeowners and renters

  • The proportion of residents living in poverty

  • The quality of public schools (including math and reading test scores)

They also “considered research from a breadth of public policy and industry advocacy groups like the American Planning Association, Brookings, Main Street America and the Project for Public Spaces, and supplemented our findings with data from Moody’s Analytics, SchoolDigger, Realtor.com, the St. Louis Federal Reserve, the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, among others.”

Thank you, Money, for naming our beautiful city to your Top 50 Places to Live in the USA list!

“Less than an hour’s drive from the Twin Cities, Northfield is the perfect place to settle down if you’re in the market for a picturesque small town with access to a major metro. It’s home to Carleton College and St. Olaf College — two highly-ranked universities that recently made it to Money’s list of best colleges — and it’s chock-full of city parks, golf courses and scenic trails. ” - money.com
